Description: This is a nice fossil crab Potamon carapace fossil from Turkey. This specimen has been preserved as a natural outer cast in its own “travertine cave”. This crustacean has amazing detail and claw and carapace preservation. This could be a molt since there are empty eye sockets Travertine is a limestone that forms near mineral springs. These crabs were found when big blocks of travertine stone are cut and used as building materials. These fossils are estimated to be 300,000-400,000 years old and are from the Pleistocene. Width of crab across legs: approximately 1.57 inches (4 cm) Length of stone: approximately 14 cm Width of stone: approximately 11.5 cm Note: Actual colors of photos are NOT edited, but sometimes exposure or other camera settings are changed. I take pictures either outside in natural sunlight or in a light box, so colors may seem brighter or different from actuality Note: The fossils are packed with extreme care, but if the fossil does break in transit somehow, I can only give any form of compensation if there is video proof of the full unboxing provided that shows the fossil was damaged right out of the box.
