Description: Lot of 15 Real Photo Postcards. Unposted. These document the Santa Barbara Earthquake of 6-29-1925. There is an interesting Wikipedia page about this disaster. It was a 6.5-6.8 tremor that was considered a violent earthquake. 13 people died and there would have been more if 3 people had not thought to shut of gas and electricity for the town and thus prevented fires. The images show significant destruction that was estimated to be 8 million in money of that time. Many historic buildings were destroyed. Highlights include a contingent of US Marines being taken to help in a truck and a Red Cross Nurse at a medical tent. buildings pictured include a theater, churches and apartment buildings and others. They are numbered so someone must have published these in some quantity. The images are in good condition but the cards were store for years loose in a box and are buckled and not flat.
