Description: Original circa 1870's-1880's tintype photo showing 28 well dressed people in the middle of a town on a snow covered street. One of the men, probably a priest or a rabbi, is wearing a religious scarf with tassels. Most of the people in the photo are adults. But, there are a few children in the photo including two children which are sitting on sleds. The first building on the left has a sign hanging over the doorway. But, we are not able to read what is painted on the sign. This tintype is housed in the original paper matt. The paper matt measures 4 5/16 inches by 3 1/8 inches. The four corner tips of the paper matt were clipped off, in period, to expedite album insertion. The actual photo measures 3 9/16 inches by 2 7/16 inches. There is a small area at the top left hand corner of the tintype which has some very tiny pinpoint sized smooth dents in the tin which occurred during the making of the photographic plate. The tintype has absolutely no post manufacture bends anywhere & most of the surface is in very smooth & lustrous condition. This photo is in truly exceptional condition for a tintype as most tintypes are found with multiple bends & usually nowhere near as smooth & fresh looking as this one. This interesting photo came from an old Pennsylvania collection of tintypes which was formed over several decades.
