Description: Original circa 1880's-1890's tintype photo showing a man who looks like he is in the outfit of a wizard or a magician. But, this may be some sort of elaborate lodge outfit. He is wearing a robe covered with stars which has a cross located on the lower mid-section. The bottom edge of the robe is fringed. He is wearing a royal looking hat with a tassel. The extremely handsome young man who looks to be in his early 20's has some pleasing tinting on his face. In any event (whether or not he was a wizard or a magician or something else), this is certainly quite a rare, interesting, unusual, & very pleasing image to find on a tintype photo. Measures 3 3/8 inches by 2 5/8 inches. This photo which is extremely shiny & appealing originally had a paper matt which is no longer present. The reason we know is that there is a subtle arched line where the top interior edge of the matt once resided showing on the background over the man's head. This gives us the clue. There are some minor flaws, as usually found on most tintypes, including a few small bends & minor wear. The front bottom edge appears in the scan to have some surface loss. But, there is no surface loss at all in this area. The photo is as made being lighter in this area as the covering on the floor is a lighter shade. There is a surface coat of rust on part of the surface on the back side of the tintype at the right &, to a lesser degree, at the bottom edges. There is one small rust spot on the bottom left front corner. This interesting photo came from an old Pennsylvania collection of tintypes which was formed over several decades.
