1916 Peru Indiana Judge Miami County Democratic Central Committee signed letter-

Description: Check it out...Here's an 8 1/2" wide by 11" tall typed letter from Peru Indiana that has been signed twice by a member of the Cole brothers circus family, Judge Albert Cole. The letter is written on the ornate letterhead of: "The Democratic Central Committee of Miami County Indiana. A. H. Cole, Chairman" with a long list of Miami County Democratic officers and members at the top as well as an equally long list of "County Central Committee by Precincts" for the townships of Allen, Butler, Clay, deer Creek, Erie, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Perry, Peru, pipe Creek, Richland, Union and Washington featuring the names of the Democratic officials from those townships as well. The letter itself reads: "Peru Indiana September 13, 1916 Mister Chas A Cole, Peru Indiana. Dear Sir: – Tuesday, September 26, 1916, the Hon. John M Adair, Democratic candidate for governor will spend the entire day in Miami County. It is the desire of your Chairman that the time allotted for Miami County by Mr Adair be well spent and to this and a meeting of the Miami County Central committee is called to meet at 1: 30, Saturday, September 16. Let nothing keep you from this meeting as it is the intention to make an automobile tour of Miami County and we need your aid in completing the schedule of towns and what speeches are to be made, other business of importance will come before the meeting. Fully expecting you to be here, I beg to remain, respectfully, (signed in ink) A. H. Cole." There is an addendum in the form of a slip of typed paper penned as a PS by a straight pen that reads: "you and each of you are hereby notified that there will be a meeting of all precinct committeemen of the Democratic Central committee Saturday, September 16 at 1:30 PM in Sullivan's Hall. Here is some info on Judge Cole: The Indianapolis Star Wednesday, April 8, 1964: Albert Harvey Cole (Born 1887-Died 1964) 77 years old, Peru attorney and former president of the Indiana State Bar Association. He was president of the Indiana Bar Association in 1 936-19.17 and also served for a number of years as president of the Indiana Taxpayers Association. HE RECEIVED his A B. degree from Indiana University in 1907, and his law degree. In 1934 Albert Harvey Cole declared his candidacy for the United States Senate at a Democratic party meeting attended by 500 persons in Peru, Indiana.
