Description: This beautifully framed handkerchief is a souvenir of an event that never took place - the Summer Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland. In July, 1936, Toyko was chosen as the site of the 1940 Olympics. The Sino Japanese War started in July 1937, and the Games in Tokyo were cancelled in March, 1938. Helsinki, the runner-up to Japan, was chosen, only to be cancelled in September 1939 as the result of the start of World War II. The handkerchief is 9 1/2 by 10 inches. It is unused, clean and free of tears, and nicely preserved in a 15 inch by 15 inch double matted wooden frame. It's a bit loose on the mat, not attached with any potentially damaging glue or tape.
