Description: Rare SKIPPER ROBERTS Doll © 1963 Mattel Including Mattel - #1923 Can U Play DRESS (underpants) , and #3371 Skipper Super Snoozers 2 piece PAJAMAS Both MARKED SKIPPERVintage Skipper marked on her bottom, "1963 Mattel Skipper Doll". NOTE- (Due to her markings as noted below I believe it is an early doll. She has a "5" on the left hip and "© 1963 Mattel" on her bottom. A lady emailed me that, "Her knees bend. The holes in the bottom of her feet tell me she is a bend leg. There were bend leg dolls with feet stamped Japan lengthwise and also USA. The bend leg dolls have holes in the bottom such as yours. The material the legs are made of should be softer than the arms and torso." (Thank you! The right knee was played with so much by daughter and son that it broke, showing a crack on the knee, that maybe once repaired can again bend like the other leg and knee (AS SHOWN ON A PHOTO)SKIPPER'S CONDITION: Her long HAIR needs to be styled/looks like hair needs to be moved into bald looking areas, re-glued and styled. Skipper has Tan-Gray complexion, sea-blue eyes, light coral lips, and long brown hair with straight rooted hair with bangs. This Skipper is marked with a "5" on the left hip and "© 1963 Mattel, Inc" (no Skipper name) on the right hip, which is correct for Sample Skippers. Lastly, on the bottom of the foot, the prototype Skipper has “Japan” scratched into the foot and goes from toe to heel (the length of the foot/SEE PHOTO). Regular issue Skipper has the Japan written from toe to toe (the width of the foot) and is written in raised letters, not carved in, like the prototypes. This Doll's history: My mother lived near Mattel headquartered in El Segundo, California, and in the 1960s contacted their Marketing department asking for free Mattel products to give to a local orphanage, and an orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. Mattel was very generous and through the years gave my mother Mattel reject doll and toys countless toys to give to poor children, making them happy and thrilled because it might be the only toy they owned. I believe this doll was one of those given my mother, which she kept and gave my daughter for helping her grandma distribute the toys.Comes with: Skipper, a 1966 "Can You Play?"#1923 Blue cotton dress with red circles with white dots, and trim on the collar and hem. A pair of underpants, and a cute 1972 Skipper "Super Snoozers" #3371 Pajama Set made of cotton with a snap, lace sleeves, and tiny buttons.............This belonged to my daughter who took very good care of her toys and dolls. She was born in 1969, and since I collect dolls, I spoiled her with her own collection which she has given me the ok to sell. ......NOTE. Listing and Selling my doll collection over the next few months. I have over 1000 dolls. See last photo which show a few of my dolls stored in two of my four glass cabinets.
