"Roots: the Next Generations" The three men primarily responsible for the epic television productions of "Roots" and "Roots: The Next Generations" are (l. to r.) executive producer David L. Wolper, author Alex Haley and Brandon Stoddard, Senior Vice President Dramatic Programs, Motion Pictures and Novels for Television, ABC Entertainment. Mr. Wolper bought the project in 1973 when the book, "Roots," was still a work in progress. In turn, it was presented to the ABC Television Network where Mr. Stoddard was the executive who carefully supervised the development of the "ABC Novel for Television," which became the most watched program in history when it was telecast in January, 1977. Wolper, Haley and Stoddard joined forces again to present "Roots, the Next Generations," which is based on Mr. Haley's books, "Roots" and "Search" and on over 1000 pages of additional notes supplied by the author.
