He gained widespread fame in the 1940s, particularly for his work in “Esquire” magazine, where his illustrations of beautiful, idealized women became known as "Vargas Girls." His style is characterized by soft, airbrushed techniques, creating sensual and elegant portrayals of women. Before his iconic work in “Esquire”, Vargas worked in Hollywood during the 1930s, painting posters and portraits for movie studios.
