The inspiration for the piece comes from Le Lion Qui Marche (Walking Lion), a statuette by sculptor Antoine Louis-Barye. He was a prominent member of Les Animaliers, a group of French artists who specialized in realistic depictions of animals.Louis-Bayre's detailed knowledge of anatomy contributed to his masterful animal sculptures.
