Qing Dynasty1644--1911 This very large seal was made for a Chinese Conductor of an orchestra and choir! It dates to last Chinese Dynasty, the Qing Dynasty. It is oval in shape and measures approximately 3.5" or 89 mm long x 2.3" or 59 mm wide x 2" tall or 49 mm. It is made of a bronze alloy and weighs about 12.9 oz. or 367 grams! This seal or ink stamp is called a "chop" in China and was used by artists, officials, and calligraphers to stamp their works as crafted or made by them. The seal has 3 Chinese characters on the bottom that are in the classic, Greater Seal script, which is known as Ku'wen. On the top of the stamp are 2 antique script Chinese characters that were cast into the stamp when it was made. It has a wonderful, old, patina with some blueish-green oxidation that is typical of bronze that has is old. Close examination with a microscope under natural and black light reveal it to be 100% authentic with a wonderful patina from the natural oxidation of the copper/bronze alloy.
