Description: Corporal Walter “Smokey” Gordon was from Mississippi and a Toccoa Man in 3rd Platoon. At Toccoa, Smokey like most men in Easy learned to hate Sobel and his "Chickenshit” ways. This hatred galvanized the men of Easy. Luckily Sobel was reassigned before Easy jumped into Normandy. Smokey made the jumps into Normandy and Holland and the defense of Bastogne. At Bastogne he was shot in the back and initially paralyzed. After six weeks in a hospital in England he started to have some feelings in his extremities. Smokey was evacuated to a hospital in Atlanta, GA where he slowly recuperated. He was in the hospital when the war ended. He would eventually be discharged with 100% disability. Smokey went to law school at Cumberland University and passed the Mississippi Bar exam. He met and later married Betty Ludeau. They settled down in Lafayette, LA and had a family of five children. He kept in close touch with the men of Easy. Smokey considered these friendships the most significant he had in his life. Please contract me for want lists on Band of Brothers needs.
