Bowser T&NO 1958 Cu. Ft. 2 Bay Cov. Hopper Kit T&NO 3906 (1951-55)

Description: Last one of these!This item is a Bowser HO model kit of a Texas & New Orleans H-70-8 two bay covered hopper. The reporting marks for this model are T&NO 3906. The model comes painted light grey with the as built lettering as of 8-51. 75 cars were built by AC&F in the summer of 1951 to complete this class. They also built 175 for SP and 25 for SSW in this same time frame. This model's lettering scheme lasted until the mid 1950s when gothic lettering in multiple color schemes replaced the original lettering. The lines above and below the reporting marks were deleted on cars starting in 1952, but this took years to complete on all cars so this as built scheme survived into the mid 1950s at a minimum.These lasted into the 1970s and early 1980s on the SP. These commonly handled high quality sand, diatomaceous earth, cement and other substances that needed to be kept dry and that could be emptied through the two discharge chutes on the bottom of the car. Vibrators were sometime attached to the outside of the discharge chutes to aid in emptying substances which tended to clump. Brackets were added to the discharge chutes of cars used with these clumping prone cargoes.Cars of this vintage lack Kadee couplers, metal wheels, etched running boards and accurate metal ASF A-3 70 ton trucks. Car weight is included, but more is recommended. Plan your upgrades accordingly. This kit is an excellent start to a fine model. For this class the hand brake should be Miner, door gear was Enterprise, running board and brake step were Transportation Specialties and trucks were ASF A-3 70 ton.
