Dated using Jisc, from copies of the work held at the University of Cambridge libraries. First published in the late 1830's by William Finden, this c1842 edition is continued by W.H. Bartlett. This beautifully illustrated work provides a visual study of Great Britain's coast with its many beautifully engraved illustrations. Comprised of numerous views and accompanying descriptions of different areas of the English coast, primarily focusing fishing villages, ships and shipwrecks, docks and lighthouses. This work was illustrated by British artist and steel engraver William Henry Bartlett, with contributions from many others, including J. D. Harding and T. Creswick. Illustrated with sixty-one plate and an engraved title page to Volume I, and sixty-one plates to Volume II. Collated, complete.Four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of Volume I. CONDITION Bound in the publisher's original green cloth. Externally, sound with some bumping to the extremities and slight soiling to the cloth. A little fraying causing some loss to the head and tail of the spines. Front hinges are starting, with cords visible. Internally, firmly bound. Pages have light scattered spotting, heavier to the rear and to the occasional plate, but otherwise bright.
