Description: This antique book titled "Calculated Risk" by Mark W. Clark is a must-have for any collector or enthusiast of historical military and war memorabilia. Col. Clark was the youngest 4-star general in the US Army during World War II. He saw service in WWI, WWII, and the Korean War. The hardcover binding, published by Harper in New York in 1950, is adorned with a personalized signature from the author himself, making it a rare and valuable find. The inscription reads: To: Mr. Justin Williams With appreciation of your fine service with me in the Far East. Mark W. Clark Tokyo-December. 19, 1952 Included in the book is a Memorandum that Justin Williams pasted into the book. The memo is for Col. Hensey. It mentions C - in - C (Gen. Mark Clark) and a phone conservation. From the inscription & the letter, I can only conclude that Mr. Williams & Gen. Mark Clark knew of one another while serving in Tokyo, 1952. There are 2 newspaper articles about Gen. Clark. One dated 4-19, 1984 from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. It announces the death of Gen. Clark. The other article is dated April 18, 1984. It is the obituary of Gen. Mark Clark. 1896-1984 The dust cover for the book may have fallen apart and someone glued the flaps onto the inside cover of the book. The outside of the dust cover is also glued into the book. I have taken pictures of the outside of the book. There are worn edges and a crinkled binding edge on the top. All the pages are secure inside. It is rather unique given the personalization of the author as well as the recipient. I hope that someone will enjoy adding it to their historical military collection. The book details the military and war experiences of Mark W. Clark, making it a valuable addition to any historical collection. This 1st edition book is a true gem for collectors, and its special attributes make it a unique piece that will surely impress any book lover.
