It definitely sounds better than my friend's Bose Wave CD and he paid three times as much for his. It has a natural, CRISP, smooth sound with nice balanced deep bass - not boomy, not overblown. I recently bought a pair of Sonos Five's so I'm selling this unit. Bluetooth I modernized this unit by adding wireless Bluetooth functionality. I'm including a nearly new BluDento B1 Bluetooth v5.1 Audio Receiver. I did a lot of research when I selected this model. It actually transmits HIGH FIDELITY SOUND. Cheaper generic units have poor sound quality and are very unreliable. This unit just WORKS - all the time. The device includes several additional cables in case you want to use it with a different stereo system at a later time. This Bluetooth receiver connects to the back of the model 88CD with an included RCA cable. It's super easy to activate, push the CD/AUX button on the front panel of the radio until the display reads AUX. Then go into the settings on your phone or computer and turn on Bluetooth. It will automatically "see" the B1 device - just click connect and it will be ready to play! You can stream (play) music wirelessly from up to 30 feet away, and use your phone or computer to control the volume and select tracks. Get free music from YouTube, or from pay services like Pandora or Apple Music. You can also play your collection of MP3's from your phone or computer. CD PlayerI recently did extensive testing to make sure the CD is working properly. I played 50 DIFFERENT CD'S and the player worked great. It does NOT, however, work with BURNED CD'S - it didn't recognize over half of the burned CD's I tried. AM/FM RadioThis has a decent FM tuner and brings in my local stations quite well. If you want even better FM reception it also has an input on the back for an external antenna, but I never found it necessary. The AM reception is just OK, not great. It has a built in ferrite antenna, you can turn the radio to the left or right to tune in an AM station better. It has 6 radio presets which can be selected from the front panel. A nice feature is you can program a preset with either an AM or FM station. By selecting the preset, the unit will automatically select the correct AM or FM band and start playing instantly. Time Display and Alarm ClockThe Model 88CD has a dual alarm feature. You can set each alarm to play a beeping tone, AM or FM station, or start playing a CD - it's very versatile and fairly easy to program. The unit has two different backup modes in case of a power outage. If you install a 9V battery in the compartment on the underside of the unit it will provide a 48hr backup for your alarm setting. It will activate a beeping tone alarm at the set time. Even if you had it set for radio or CD it will still sound the beeping alarm so you don't oversleep. The second backup is a non-replaceable internal battery that maintains the clock time setting only, almost indefinitely. This feature is great if you get frequent power outages because you won't have to reset the clock all the time. I've had this unit unplugged for WEEKS at a time, and as soon as I plug it back in the time is still correct.
