They allow you to not only adjust the tension on your springer, but lock down the hex nuts so they can never come off when installed. Also, installed with our wishbone or hoop kit (see our other auctions) smooths out the way these springers ride. Once you remove the Acorn you actually use the part as a tool to properly adjust the hex to the correct height and alignment.
