Description: EXTREMELY RARE VINTAGE 4 X 5 COLOR TRANSPARENCY OF LEGENDARY FILM ACTRESS CAROLE LOMBARD IN HER GARDEN Specs: Color Film Transparency 4 inches by 5 inches Age/Era: 1941-1942 Provenance: Estate Item; Private Collection Going to the highest bidder is this extremely rare vintage 4x5 inch color transparency of legendary actress, Carole Lombard, believed to have been taken not long before her tragic and untimely passing. Although one of the most photographed film actresses of her era, few genuine color photographs exist of Lombard, whose screen career abruptly ended at the age of thirty-three. Most “color” images are in fact derived from vintage black & white photos! One of the few authentic photos widely published over the years is of Lombard, just months before her passing, posing in the garden of her 20-acre San Fernando Valley ranch wearing a fur coat and holding a spray of red berries. The photographer of that image has always remained uncertain until recently when, while finally sorting through our extensive collection film negatives, slides, and transparencies by Hollywood photographer Fred Parrish (1892-1980), who is perhaps most noted for taking the production stills for such classic films as "Gone With The Wind," "Nothing Sacred," and "Rebecca,” we discovered several 4 x 5 inch color transparencies of Ms. Lombard that were taken during that same photo shoot! One surprising difference, however, is that, according to this newly discovered transparency, that previous published image has, for all these years, been displayed backwards! (see eBay photo 3) It makes perfect sense that Parrish took this and several other color images never previously published, as he was good friends with both Lombard and her husband, Clark Gable, and shot countless photos of both film stars on various film sets and in their private lives. To be clear, this is an original vintage color transparency produced by the original photographer not a modern copy and the first eBay photo is an actual digital scan of this transparency! There are no chips, cracks, bends, or scratches in this impressive film image which is still in its original protective sleeve without any color loss, ghosting, or age spotting. Please note that this remarkably rare vintage film transparency does not bear the “Props & Wardrobe” watermark. Rarely do vintage film transparencies this extraordinary come up for auction and this set would certainly make an impressive addition to any Carole Lombard or Vintage Hollywood memorabilia collection.
