Description: This is a custom 12" figure commemorating one of the first women to be a Deputy US Marshal of the Old West, FM Miller. Judge Issac Parker of the Judicial District of Arkansas which included the Indian Territory (mostly western Arkansas and current day Oklahoma).Parker had a bit over 200 Deputy US Marshals that he charged with cleaning up 74,000 square miles of of some of the roughest country ever known to man or (as you will see) woman. There is not a lot of information on FM Miller but I got interested after watching part of the movie Lady Lawman (2021) on Amazon Prime. the movie was based on a real life old West woman,a Deputy US Marshal in the Oklahoma Territory, Francis (FM) Miller. Just fyi- parts of the movie were of great quality BUT the story definitely was. Between 1872-1896 over 100 Deputy US Marshals were killed trying to round up the 100's of wanted men in and around Judge Parker's domain. This was not a job for the faint of heart. There were multiple woman that became Deputy US Marshals. FM Miller was appointed Deputy US Marshal in Paris, Texas in 1891. She was transferred to Guthrie, Oklahoma where she would often guard prisoners at the Federal jail with fellow Deputy US Marshal Ben Campbell. Miller would go on many trips with Campbell in search of wanted men throughout the territory. Miller was described as "a dashing brunette with charming manners" also "she had a pre-possessing appearance" etc. Probably more important in her line of work was the fact that FM Miller (according to an article written about her) was an expert shot and an accomplished horse woman who was brave bordering on recklessness". She never shied away from a fight. Miller always carried a Colt pistol with a Winchester rifle strapped to her saddle and plenty of cartridges. FM Miller was an amazing person and one of the most colorful figures of the old West. This figure was designed mainly for display purposes for the history fan.
