In 1900, Meid trained at the art academy in Karlsruhe, and in 1919 Meid became a teacher of etching at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin. From 1910 onwards he created an extensive graphic work including numerous book illustrations, graphics for portfolios and portfolios as well as cover designs. In 1948 he accepted a position at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, where he taught until 1951. He spent the last years of his life living in Ludwigsburg Palace.
