Pratt & Miller Engineering and Fabrication is a company formed by Gary Pratt and Jim Miller in 1989. Based in New Hudson, Michigan, they have been one of General Motors official racing teams since 1999 when they were key in the development of the Chevrolet Corvette C5-R. Today, Pratt & Miller constructs, maintains, and runs the United SportsCar Championship Corvette Racing team with Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs as well as the Pirelli World Challenge Team Cadillac CTS-Vs. The company also built the Pontiac GTO.Rs and Pontiac GXP.Rs, and later the Chevrolet Camaro GT/GS.R for various teams in the Rolex Sports Car Series. The company built and ran the Chevrolet Corvette C6.R in the American Le Mans Series as well. The company also did work on the development of the Qvale Mangusta and Ford GT. Since their alliance with General Motors, Pratt & Miller have won numerous championships and famous racing events. Corvette Racing has won their class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans eight times, claimed the overall victory at theRolex 24 at Daytona in 2001, and won seven straight American Le Mans Series championships. Team Cadillac won the 2005 Speed World Challenge in the team's debut season, while The Racer's Group, running Pratt & Miller-built Pontiac GTO.Rs, won the Rolex Sports Car Series championship in 2006. GM Racing's Katech-built LS7.R small-block engine was also named the 2006 Global Motorsport Engine of the Year. Katech built the C5-R and LS7.R engines that powered the C5-R and C6.R Corvettes in the GTS/GT1 classes of ALMS and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After Le Mans 2009, Corvette Racing switched to the GT2 class and decided to bring the engine builds in-house. Corvette Racing won the 2012 and 2013 American Le Mans Series GT Team's and Manufacturer's Championships. The Chevrolet Corvette, known colloquially as the Vette, is a sports car manufactured by Chevrolet. The car has been produced through seven generations. The first model, a convertible, was designed by Harley Earl and introduced at the GM Motorama in 1953 as a concept show car. Myron Scott is credited for naming the car after the type of small, maneuverable warship called a corvette. Originally built in Flint, Michigan andSt. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette is currently manufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky and is the official sports car of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. A 50th Anniversary Edition (RPO Z25) was offered during the 2003 model year to commemorate a half-century of Corvette production. Available in convertible and coupé models, the 50th Anniversary Edition came with a special shade of red paint ("Anniversary Red Metallic") and shale two-tone leather interior; Anniversary Edition convertibles were adorned with a shale-colored soft top as well. A new option for Corvette in 2003, the F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control Suspension was standard on the 1SC-equipped Anniversary Edition vehicles. Special ("Warm Nickel Metallic") painted aluminum wheels, embroidered upholstery trim, and badges completed the Anniversary Edition package. Also included were all of the convenience options offered on the upscale Corvette models. A slightly modified 50th Anniversary Edition Corvette was chosen to pace the Indianapolis 500 race in May 2002; then the production vehicle became a centerpiece of the subsequent 50th Anniversary Celebration, sponsored by Chevrolet. Festivities included gatherings in Nashville, Bowling Green, and St. Louis. Thousands of Corvettes and their owners arrived from all over the country to participate in the events marking the vehicle's 50th year of production. .This item will make a great addition to your SSI Shoulder Sleeve Insignia collection.
