Dallas. Sculptor, painter, lecturer, author, journalist.Dowling was born in Texarkana. She earned a teacher’s certificate in 1923 from the College of Marshall (Texas) and a doctorate from Colorado Christian College, Denver. She studied at the Frolich School of Fine Art, Los Angeles, the National Academy of Design, and the Art Students League of New York. She also studied Loyola University (Probably in New Orleans) and in Europe. She was a student of Robert Jerome Hill in Dallas as well as George Demont Otis, Robert Aiken, Robert Laurent, and William Zorach. After 1938, Dowling lived in Hollywood, California, and was afterward a resident of St. Petersburg, Florida. She was a freelance writer who wrote for radio, television, and daily and monthly publications, and the author of several books. She was divorced from Thomas Leo Dowling after 1958.
