Description: Julius Lange (1817 Darmstadt – 1878 Munich), landscape study 1872 Julius Lange (1817 Darmstadt – 1878 Munich), landscape study 1872 Julius Ludwig Christian Lange (1817 - 1878) Julius Ludwig Christian Lange was born on 17 August 1817 in Darmstadt and died on 25 June 1878 in Munich. He was a renowned German painter who belonged to the Düsseldorf School. Already at the tender age of 15, Lange was involved in his project "Views of the most beautiful areas of Germany in steel and copperplate engravings" (1832) through the collaboration with his brother, the art printer and publisher Gustav Georg Lange. His other brother, the architect Ludwig Lange, was also involved in this important work. Lange studied at the renowned Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1836 to 1839 under the guidance of the respected painter Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. Thanks to Schirmer's support, Lange was later able to continue his artistic path in Munich. On 23 June 1850, he married Emilie Henriette Bettinger (1824–1896), daughter of Munich Chief Appellation Court Councillor Carl Philipp Bettinger (1785–1857). Long talent and dedication soon earned him larger commissions and financial success. The Academy of Art in Venice commissioned him with a series of landscape sketches, while the Academy in Milan commissioned two significant paintings. His stay in northern Italy also allowed Lange to forge connections with the Milan court. Until 1858 he held the position of art educator there to Archduchess Charlotte of Belgium, later Empress of Mexico. After his return to Munich in 1858, Lange also gained access to the royal court. His artistic abilities impressed King Maximilian II, which led to Lange quickly gaining attention in Munich society. Even Maximilian's son, King Ludwig II, acquired two of his landscape paintings for the Neue Pinakothek. Lange also created several watercolours and gouaches for Ludwig II, particularly in connection with the construction projects of the Herrenchiemsee and Linderhof castles, including French castle views and interior designs. One of Lange's students was Karl Millner. In 1860, in addition to his teacher Schirmer and other well-known artists, Lange participated in the work "The Great German Landscape School", which presented original studies of these landscape painters in photographs by Georg Markwort. Julius Lange died almost six weeks before his 61st birthday on 25 June 1878 in Munich. Return: All items can be returned within 14 days with no quibble.
