Description: This rare antique mortar and pestle set features a Greco-Roman winged design. The items date to the early 1900s. They have a really beautiful patina. Both pieces show considerable aging and rust. This is a large and substantial piece. The Mortar weighs 38.5 lbs, while the Pestle weighs 3.5 lbs. Together, they weigh just under 42 lbs!! The items come from the estate of one of the first veterinarians to practice in Minden, NV. They were used in his practice to mix medications for large animals. I found them in his barn covered in a few decades' worth of dust. These truly are a "barn find." It's an amazing set that harkens back to the early days of the American West. The mortar measures 8.5" H x 9.5" D. The pestle measures 13" in length. The set would make an amazing addition to any collection! It's sure to be a conversation starter.
