Description: Marie Dressler signed handwritten letter dated October 30, 1925 and autographed photograph. In her letter Dressler expresses her gratitude for encouraging words and writes, “…am indeed hoping my new venture will be an success as one cannot cope with the managers of today.” She goes on to write, “Am ashamed to send you the only photo I have at present as it does not look like me at all – but it is the best I have.” The 5.5 X 7 four sided letter written on Ritz-Carlton Hotel stationery (11 X 7 opened) is accompanied by the 8 X 10 autographed double-weight photograph she mentions in her letter. Photograph has small corner crease in the upper right corner. Otherwise letter and photograph are in very good condition. Dressler (d. 1934), a Canadian stage and screen actress, comedian and early silent film star including having appeared opposite Charlie Chaplin. For her performance in. the comedy film “Min and Bill” (1930) Dressler won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
