Marklin 3049 HO Gauge DB BR 104 electric locomotive in green livery

Description: This nice three rail AC HO gauge locomotive by Marklin is 3049 a DB BR 104 steam locomotive in green livery. It has the running number 104 021-1. The E 04 series , later DB series 104 (from 1968) or DR series 204 (from 1970), was an electric locomotive developed for use in express train services and used from 1933 by the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft . Originally developed for use in central Germany , it was used by both the Deutsche Bundesbahn and the Deutsche Reichsbahn after the Second World War . By 1982, the last locomotives of this series had been taken out of scheduled service. Initially, all ten locomotives of the first series were stationed in the Leipzig West depot , apart from the E 04 09 and 10, which were temporarily stationed in the Munich Central Station depot for test runs . From 1936, after the delivery of the first E 18, Leipzig gave some of its locomotives to Magdeburg . The examples delivered by AEG from 1934 onwards went to southern German depots, in addition to Munich, also to Nuremberg , Treuchtlingen and Augsburg . In 1943 and 1944, another six E 04s were transferred to Halle (Saale) , their original destination, in exchange for E 18s. During the Second World War , a total of seven E 04s were so badly damaged by accidents or bomb damage that they had to be taken out of service. Only some of them returned to service after the end of the war. After the war , in the summer only nine locomotives were still operational in the territory of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the Soviet occupation zone . Other machines were damaged and parked in the Dessau repair shop and at various stations, of which four machines were repaired by the beginning of 1946. After the cessation of electrical operations in the central German network by order of the SMAD in early April 1946, the 13 existing operational locomotives were transported to the Soviet Union as reparations . [6] The heavily damaged locomotives E 04 04, 11, 12 and 13 remained in the territory of the later GDR . Of these, locomotives 04 and 13 were no longer repairable and were scrapped in the following years. In the Soviet Union, the E 04, like most of the electric vehicles transported away in 1946, proved to be unsuitable for conversion to the broad gauge there. In the case of the E 04, the spring-loaded drive in particular could not be converted without considerable technical effort. In addition, it proved impractical to set up an alternating current operation with the power plant and overhead line systems, which had also been dismantled, that deviated from the previous Soviet standard in terms of the power system. The locomotives were therefore not used. In 1952, the USSR and the GDR finally concluded an agreement to return the electric locomotives and systems in exchange for the delivery of 335 long-distance passenger cars from VEB Waggonbau Ammendorf. From 1975, the locomotives, which had been designated as the 204 series since July 1970, were mainly used in passenger train service on the electrified route from Dessau to Magdeburg. Increasing damage to the traction motors meant that the series was decommissioned and scrapped in 1971. By the 1976 summer timetable, apart from the E 04 01, which was intended for preservation as a heritage locomotive , only three operational examples were still in service. The locomotive 204 005 hauled the last passenger train on 28 November 1976, thus ending the scheduled use of the series at the DR. After the war, the Deutsche Bundesbahn took over the locomotives that remained in Bavaria with the numbers E 04 17 to 22. The E 04 23, also based in southern Germany, was parked just behind the now zone border at the end of the war and remained with the Deutsche Reichsbahn. From 1968, the locomotives were designated Class 104 and were used primarily in the Munich area until May 1968. They were then based in Osnabrück ,the last of the locos finally retired on 28 January 1982. The 104s, which were actually designed for use in central Germany, were considered southern German exotics by the Osnabrück locomotive crew, as they had to be taken to the Munich-Freimann repair shop for overhauls . They were therefore given nicknames such as "dumpling locomotive" or "mountain goat". A number remain in preservation. The loco is in excellent condition as you can see in the pictures, We are unable to test it as we do not have a three rail AC test rig or track, so we have not tested it but can see no reason why it would not run. It is sold in untested condition, this means that it may not run, and as such it is not being sold in running condition. However a complete external visual inspection has shown no reason why this loco would not run and the overall condition is good. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition. Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout. Do please have a look at my other listings, I typically have various HO and OO locos on offer as well as an extensive range of imported N gauge locos and other items. Note: I do recommend all locos are cleaned & serviced, as they have some age to them even if the quality looks at the highest level (fairly standard advice for all locos!).
