Natural Weathered Driftwood for Aquarium, Taxidermy, Crafts, Reptiles, Terrarium

Description: This one-of-a-kind piece of weathered wood is sizable and hefty. The contrasts of browns and blacks is striking. The hole goes all the way through. Weighs a little over 2 pounds.Measurements in photos. It originates from the banks of the Loch Raven Reservoir in Maryland. I'm not sure what kind of tree it's from, so I'm providing a list of possible trees found in and around Loch Raven:Tulip Poplar, American Beech, White Oak, Northern Red Oak, Chestnut Oak, Sassafras, Black Walnut, Mockernut Hickory, Pignut Hickory, Sycamore, Red Cedar, Eastern Hemlock, Virginia Pine, American Holly, Red Maple, Box Elder, Osage Orange, Flowering Dogwood, White Pine, Umbrella Magnolia, Norway Maple and Black Gum This piece has been rinsed off but just with water. I also lightly brushed it to remove debris. I have not used any cleaning agents so as not to contaminate. I cannot attest to the presence of any microorganisms, possible contaminants, etc...the wood is in it's most natural, rustic state.I am not an expert on driftwood but I will answer all questions honestly, so please ask before purchasing. I cannot offer any guarantees on specific uses and I expect the customer to be responsible for the suitability of driftwood for their intended use, so ask appropriate questions if necessary! Thanks. Here's a little history about Loch Raven:The Loch Raven dam was originally built in 1881 in order to feed water to Baltimore City lakes and increase the city?s water supply, but the large reservoir we?re now familiar with wasn?t started until after 1914, when a 51-foot dam was built and water from the Gunpowder River began filling up behind it, eventually containing 1.5 billion gallons of water. In 1923, the dam was increased to 240 ft, it?s current height, and the true reservoir was created, now holding 23 billion gallons of water, enough to sustain the State of Maryland for approximately 50 days, a fact that is startling when one sees the size of the reservoir.According to [link removed by eBay], a hidden city can be found beneath the waters of Loch Raven Reservoir. This city was named Warren and was located near the Warren Rd. Bridge. Old building foundations can be found throughout the reservoir, especially in the woods near Merryman?s Point, where members of the Merryman family most likely lived prior to the dam being built. The are countless species of plants/trees and wildlife at Loch Raven Reservoir.Other fun facts about Loch Raven: Portions of The Blair Witch Project were filmed at Loch Raven Reservoir. The reservoir has approximately 50-70 miles of hiking trails. The original cost of the dam was 5 million dollars, approximately 120 million dollars by today?s standards. Maryland has no natural lakes, although some are called lakes?Deep Creek, Lake Habeeb?most, including Loch Raven Reservoir, are created by damming rivers and are thereby truly reservoirs. Loch Raven Reservoir is the largest body of water located entirely within Baltimore County (Liberty Reservoir is larger but is in both Baltimore and Carroll Counties). The reservoir and the land surrounding it are owned and policed by Baltimore City. There are 2,400 acres of water surface.
