Product Description: Listing Update...This is not so much an update as it is a brief comment about the computers and related parts I have available for sale. Personal computers (and in particular desktop computers) have always been a hobby of mine. I've enjoyed tinkering with this stuff over the years and have accumulated a number of items during this time...some new and some used. I am not an expert on the subject...more of an enthusiast...but I will still do my best to answer any questions as it relates to my computer related listings. Thank you. Original Listing... This offering is for a new AMD Ryzen 5 Model 3400G (4 cores / 8 threads) processor with second generation (Zen+) micro-architecture. The "G" indicates this processor includes integrated graphics. It's also worth noting the Radeon RX Vega 11 graphics included with this desktop processor are among the most powerful (integrated graphics) on the market. This includes the latest and greatest integrated graphics on many newer AMD and likely all Intel processors. Compared to discrete graphics cards, a NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 or an AMD Radeon RX 550 graphics card would be the equivalent of these integrated graphics. These are certainly not powerhouse discrete graphics cards by today's standards, but they still represent relatively modern technology and come standard with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. So a respectable "comp" for any integrated graphics. I am also getting some questions about "comps" to Intel processors, and the short answer is that anything with 4 cores / 8 threads will be in the discussion. In the interest of being a little more specific, when Intel moved to their 14nm process in 2015, their top-end Core i7-6700K (Skylake) processor was probably the best "comp" to this Ryzen (Zen+) processor. Anything older on the Intel side (and on the 22nm process) is likely going to be inferior to this Ryzen processor. However, I'd probably give the nod to the aforementioned 6th generation Core i7-6700K (and Intel's newer 4 core / 8 thread processors), because they usually "clock" a little higher. Although (and as alluded to above), the integrated graphics on any of the Intel processors do not come close to Ryzen Vega 11 integrated graphics, and this is important when considering use cases that include more graphics intensive applications (especially when a discrete graphics card is not being considered). Finally, I should mention the older Intel processors, like the 6th generation Skylake and even the 7th generation Kaby Lake processors, do not officially support Windows 11. It's not until Intel rolled out their 8th generation Coffee Lake processors at the end of 2017 that Intel officially offered Windows 11 support. All Ryzen second generation (Zen+) and newer processors, including this offering, support Windows 11. For those that are interested in a brief AMD (Ryzen) processor history, the original Ryzen 1XXX offerings were all first generation (Zen) models that launched in 2017. In very early 2018, AMD launched their first Ryzen "G" models (the 2200G and 2400G) that were also based on first generation (Zen) architecture. Shortly thereafter (so still in the first half of 2018) AMD released their second generation (Zen+) 2XXX processors. Finally (and in the middle of 2019), AMD launched their "G" model second generation (Zen+) processors (the 3200G and 3400G), which roughly coincided with the launch of their third generation (Zen 2) 3XXX processors. I know it's confusing, because the Ryzen 3400G model number would seem to indicate third generation (Zen 2) micro-architecture, but these "G" processors were built on second generation (Zen+) micro-architecture. It's an important distinction, if for no other reason then it clears up any questions concerning motherboard compatibility (as discussed in more detail below). It's also worth noting these Ryzen 3400G second generation offerings are better than their first generation (Ryzen 2400G) descendants. There is a modest clock speed improvement (3.6 MHz to 3.7 MHz) on the "base" and (3.9 MHz to 4.2 MHz) on the "boost". The other performance improvements include more efficient power consumption, a modest increase in IPC (Instructions Per Cycle/Clock), an update to Precision Boost 2 for more responsive clock speed increases, faster cache memory and a controller capable of supporting faster RAM. Some of the more notable features include the following... Cores / Threads: 4 / 8 Clock Speed: 3.7 GHz (Base) and 4.2 GHz (Boost) Die Size: 12 nm CPU Socket: AM4 Codename / Micro-Architecture: Pinnacle Ridge / Zen+ Cache (L1 / L2 / L3): 384 KB / 2 MB / 4 MB TDP: 65W Thermal Solution: Wraith Spire Cooler (included), and this is the larger/nicer model when compared to the Wraith Stealth Cooler Integrated Graphics: Radeon RX Vega 11, which are among the most powerful integrated graphics solutions on the market today, and the equivalent of a GT 1030 or RX 550 graphics card with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. Other Notes: One of the benefits of these processors is their compatibility with older 300 and 400-series motherboards. If I could choose, I would opt for a B350 or B450 motherboard to pair with this processor. It would not have to be a high-end variant of one of these motherboards, as this is a relatively low powered processor. I just like the feature set of the B-series motherboards a lot better than the stripped down A-series motherboards. As for the top-end X-series motherboards compatible with this processor, that's really not necessary, especially at a higher cost relative to B-series alternatives. Having said all the above, I do want to confirm these processors on my shelf are new and still sealed in their original retail box. So a factory new Wraith Spire cooler (which is an upgrade over the Wraith Stealth model) will also be included with each one of these processors. I can also confirm the pictures reflect the next (actual) processor to be sold and this includes close-up images of the processor UPC code and serial number. I'll end up listing them one-at-a-time, because I am not sure yet how many more I may use in computer builds at a later date. You may visit our store by clicking on this "Store Home Page" link. Note to international customers regarding shipping... We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case. Note to international customers regarding customs... We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
