In 2001, a friend owned a record store down the street from the store I used to manage. He was retiring and closing the record store (a lot of such stores closed a few years before. He offered the owner of my store all of the styluses he had for sale at a great price. My employer balked, as CD sales dominated the market. I did not think twice! I marched down to the ATM and got cash. I have sold a few pieces every now and then, but now, I am organizing my stuff and selling them on eBay at less than half the price that they were sold for. One (1) New, High Quality Generic Replacement Stylus with proper alignment. It is a Rivert One 2384–D7 This is one (1) single generic stylus that is much better quality that those competitors who are selling styluses like this for around $12.00. This Stylus Features Excellent Alignment, something you can not say for the ten buck brand. Alignment has to do with whether the tip of the stylus is pointing straight down. With the $12.00 brand, most of the time the tip is pointing a little off from straight down, and this is enough to Distort up the frequency response, because the stylus is not straight between the groves Create distortion that is easily heard, because the stylus is touching one grove at an angle Throw the channel balance off considerably (one speaker always louder than the other) Permanently damage the vinyl The original SONY cartridges were OEMed (sold to SONY and others by, in this case, Audio-Technica. The original SONY cartridge model numbers include VL-5, VL-7, VL-7E. The Audio-Technica version of this stylus ran about $29 until it was discontinued by Audio-Technica, who now suggests that you to buy a whole new cartridge, so they can make more money. These styluses rival the performance of the original Audio-Technica styluses at a fraction of the cost. The 479-D6T (RivertOne model number) has a List Price of $19.99 However, I purchased a ton of them from a record store in 2001. All of the styluses I purchased have red colored plastic grips. I made my purchase at a good discount, and I am now passing the savings on to you! Some SONY Turntables came from SONY VL-38G and VL-47G Cartridges pre-packed with the turntables. To further complicate things, several SONY cartridges were discontinued in the 90s. These were the "dark days" of the turntable (presently, more new vinyl records are sold every day than new CDs)! I was in store management for dealer for many major brands, I was there at the time, so I know what happened! Anyway, when dealers tried to order styluses for the models of SONY cartridges that were no longer made, we received new SONY cartridges to sell to our customers who wanted a stylus! So........ Some SONY turntables that say they have one of the older cartridges actually have the replacement cartridges with incompatible styluses. What do You HAVE,? to look at the numbers on the cartridge.
