Description: FOR SALE: Linksys Velop WHW01 dual-port Gigabit router / access point running OpenWrt. Originally, these devices were intended for creating wireless mesh networks and often came in packs of two or three. As mesh hardware, they have received mixed reviews. We, on the other hand, thought we should try one out as a standalone access point (the hardware looked good on paper, we really liked the form factor, so why not?). So we got one, put OpenWrt, an open-source operating system for networking equipment, on it, and tested it out. Long story short, no, you can't have ours (we're keeping it), but we have a few more for you. :) To test the device and make it work right out of the box, we made a few changes to the initial pfSense configuration. A detailed configuration note will be provided to the buyer. Alternatively, the buyer could simply reset the software to its initial state. Note that by default, we will ship the device configured as an access point. If you want one configured as a wireless router, please indicate this in a note to seller (we have developed reference configurations for both use cases). The device runs on a Qualcomm IPQ4018 system-on-a-chip, which combines an ARMv7 processor (four cores, 716 MHz), a dual-port wired controller, and two wireless controllers (2.4 GHz b/g/n and 5.0 GHz a/n/ac); there are 256 MB of RAM and 256 MB of Flash storage. The storage device is configured in a dual-firmware layout, meaning, the device keeps two copies of the operating system it's running, just in case one of them gets messed up during an update gone bad or for some other reason. The device is implemented in a column form factor; its footprint is approximately 3x3 in. It is about 7 in tall, which makes it somewhat smaller than the models that followed it. The case is white plastic, so the device would fit in neatly in most home or office interiors. The device is passively cooled and completely silent. The device is in excellent physical condition (please review the photos). A power supply unit is included (please note that we are listing several devices, some of which have the original white AC adapters, while others may have aftermarket black AC adapters, as shown in the photos).
