Description: FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION A KNIGHTS CROSS OF THE IRON CROSS-HALLMARKED ON THE RING OF THE MEDAL 800 AND ON THE RING HOLDER -800-WITH THE ORIGINAL RIBBON WHICH TESTED UV NEGATIVE-IT COMES IN A BROWN LEATHER CASE THAT IS NOT ORIGINAL TO THIS AWARD-THIS PARTICULAR KNIGHTS CROSS IS THE KRIEGSMARINE VERSION 1957 DENAZIFIED-IT DOES NOT HAVE AN IRON CORE-(MY last one)- since it is a Kriegsmarine Naval Version -IT HAS A BRASS CORE TO KEEP IT FROM RUSTING-While on duty on the Submarine or destroyer during operations-During or shortly after WORLD WAR 2, 148 German sailors and servicemen of the KRIEGSMARINE received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Of these, 148 presentations were formally made. Two recipients received the award after 11 May 1945, when Grossadmiral Karl Donitz ordered a cease of promotions and illegalized subsequent awards. The final two recipients are therefore considered to have received the medal without legal authority. U-boat captains would often joke about having "an itchy neck" (Halsschmerzen in German) that could only be cured by wearing the Knights Cross ribbon :)-This is an opportunity to acquire a Historic Knights Cross for your collection-MORE SO HISTORIC-since so few were awarded to the Kriegsmarine Service-148 Awardees
