Description: This is a rare Early to Middle Devonian Proetid trilobite- Phaetonellus sp. from Morocco. The trilobite is similar to Cornuproetus but has long thoracic spines. The fossil measures approx.1.15 inches long (if flattened- it is in a partial 'flight" position and 0.99 inches wide (genal spine to genal spine). The entire specimen, matrix and trilobite, measures 2.44 inches long, 2.95 inches wide and 1.65 inches high. Both eyes have incredibly well-preserved holochroal lenses. There is a repair running through the base of the right genal spine and another at the tip of the pygidium. In the trilobite -collecting world this is not a detriment. Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks and the specimens often get broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. And if one is found, they usually are sold for a premium amount. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure. All of my fossils are authentic and have been legally obtained. Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
