See Below** THE KAFRA HAGGADAH Illuminated Passover Masterpiece NOTE: I am a collector of Illustrated Haggadot (Haggada's) and have over 500 in my collection, which I have exhibited here in Southern California for a few years. This is one of my duplicates. Kafra was, after Arthur Szyk, one of the first to respond to the growing availablilty of facsimiles of medieval Haggadah manuscripts with an attempt to continue that tradition in modern times. The Kafra Haggadah follows in the traditions of the classic illuminated Haggadahs; however instead of being produced by unknown Jewish artists during the Renaissance, it was produced in Budapest, Hungary through an intense, year-long artistic collaboration between Fradel Kahan-Frankl and her son Moshe Tzvi. The name Kafra is actually composite of the hyphenated last name. The Kafras felt the need to create the Haggadah because of a disturbing experience. One day, Fradel and Moshe Tzvi decided to visit the Budapest museum to view the illuminated Kaufmann Haggadah, (14th century, Catalonia) but they were turned away. All efforts and entreaties to view the Haggadah proved futile. Frustrated, they decided that they could produce their own illuminated Haggadah in the classic medieval style. Thus the Kafra Haggadah was born. Working on 24x12” panels, Moshe Tzvi wrote the text of the Haggadah in a very elegant and stylized form of the traditional calligraphic letters used for holy scrolls. Fradel painted elaborate decorative frames for the pages and added artistic adornments to the initial letters, painting many miniature representations of the dramatic scenes described in the text as well as some full page illustrations. The work continued for a year, which she often described as one of the happiest times of her life. The family left Hungary after the war, and The Haggadah was originally published in 1947 by Philip Feldheim Publishing Company, then located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This is a majestic new edition with dazzling imagery, breathtaking calligraphy and lavish ornamentation, all combined to create a visually stunning masterpiece in the realm of illuminated Haggadot. This 2011 edition, which, because of advances in printing technology, is even more vibrant than the first and an attractive English translation of the Haggadah by Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Reinman has been added after the original illuminated work. Opening right to left (Hebraic opening) is the complete Hebrew version of the Haggadah, 84pp. Opening left to right (English style) reveals the entire Haggadah in English, 24pp. This copy is clearly new and unused, bound in gold foil over hardcover boards with matching dust jacket, every page illuminated. The book was not well protected in transit to me and as such is ever so slighly bumped in the top right corner. It is a magnificent masterpiece and is being sold for a song, so grab it before someone else does, and illuminate your next Seder! Despite USPS claims of 3-9 day delivery times, MEDIA MAIL CAN actually TAKE UP TO 3 WEEKS to arrive, and their tracking info is frequently not updated until it actually arrives, making that feature pretty useless! PLEASE remember this when you leave feedback scores as the choice is yours and not my fault if it takes a long time to get there! If you want it in a week or less, you are going to have to bite the bullet and pay for Priority Mail which will get it there in 2-3 working days, 99% of the time, but it is more expensive. Basically, the choice is yours, but if you choose media mail, please don't write to me in 5 days asking where your package is, because the post office will have it and most of the time, they don't have a clue! International deliveries usually arrive within 1-2 weeks but CAN take up to a month!
