This specific expansion is associated with the 3rd edition of Settlers of Catan and printed in 2003. FYI - 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th editions have different art, the 4th edition introduces a frame of water instead of water hexes in the main game, and I understand 5th edition has slightly thicker hex pieces. I don't know how the Seafarers of Catan differ by edition, but I understand they are functionally compatible with all editions outside of the differences already described.
