Description: For your consideration is this Vintage Set of 3 hand-painted Cafe Cups signed on the base, "359 Berardos Scarl Sec XVII Made in Portugal". Each empty cup weighs a mere 4 oz and has a capacity at its fullest of 200 ml or 7 fluid oz. All three cups are intricately decorated with a castle, plants, flowers, leaves, berries, birds, rabbits, deer and insects and are banded at the rim and the base as well as decorated across the handle.Upon further research of the origin of these cups, I learned that typically, the letters SEC. means the century the work was modeled on-often inspired by a particular painting or historic piece of work. In this case, I'd guess that is a part of a painting or tile scene done in the 17th century that is referred to as 'painting 359' in the trade. Ceramica Berardos is one of nine independent ceramics factories in Condeixa, a town in the district of Coimbra, Portugal. Vintage c. 1980's, the artists made their markings simply as M-G on the two Blue Cups and signed FL. O on the Green Cup. A Vintage item - previously owned and displayed/used; has been carefully cleaned and wrapped. Item may show signs of age/wear/patina. *** Please review photographs closely for condition of vintage/used items ***
