Boldly SIGNED on the first, blank page by the celebrated author! NOT inscribed to anyone, simply SIGNED by the great Peter Benchley! A TRUE First American Edition/First Printing/First State with ALL First Edition Points present! Unfortunately, this rare treasure has some VERY clearly visible wear! The wear is considerable and should be carefully examined/considered BEFORE buying. The book appears gently read and has no remainder marks, no missing pages and is NOT a BCE. The binding is holding tight. All of the pages are present and fully attached. Some general/shelf wear along with creases/scuffing/marks/wear to the spine/corners/cloth boards, marks/wear to the edge/fore pages and creases/marks/stains/wear to the pages, NOT affecting the text! There is also a stamp and some internal writing on the first, blank page! The book has some of the markings of an Ex-Library Copy, but we're hesitant to classify this copy as Ex-Libris due to its' lack of the usual, ubiquitous markings typically found in books that are Ex-Library copies. No library stamps, no envelopes, no attached to the book dust jacket etc. Still, this book does have quite a bit of the wear/markings that are usually found in Ex-Libris copies. This includes tape attached to the rear board, (top and bottom edges) and VERY large marks/stains on both the front and rear pastedowns and on both the first and final blank pages. The marks/stains can be both seen and felt and some of them have the appearance and touch of residual glue. In other words, it appears that something, at some point in time, was attached to to these areas and has since been removed. These areas/wear has been closely photographed for your consideration and we want to repeat that the marks/stains are VERY large and the wear is extensive! Please also note the wear to the spine/corners/cloth boards, particularly noticeable near/along the edges, and the wear that is present on the pages, varying in size and severity and particularly noticeable on certain pages. All of the wear previously mentioned is considerable and VERY clearly visible! The wear should be carefully examined/considered. As mentioned before, there is a stamp and some internal writing! Both the stamp and the internal writing is located on the first, blank page, (the same page with the Benchley signature), and has been closely photographed for your consideration. The original, First State dust jacket is fully intact and NOT price-clipped but also has considerable wear! Some general/shelf wear along with creases, scuffing, scratches and marks. Please note the wear on the spine, at the corners, on both the front and rear inside jacket flaps and near/along the edges! The wear, particularly near/along the edges and on both the front and rear inside jacket flaps, is very clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered. We tend to grade the condition of our books rather harshly and took into consideration any and all wear when determining the value of this rare book. Our VERY LOW asking price is a reflection of that consideration and if this copy was in better condition our asking price would be considerably higher. We purposely and closely photographed what we consider to be the most obvious and egregious wear. Once again, we want to reiterate that the wear to both the book and the dust jacket is considerable and VERY clearly visible!
