But because of her marriage and position the romance seems doomed for tragedy. THE GENERAL DIED AT DAWN: Gary Cooper stars as O'Hara, an American soldier of fortune carrying gold across China to finance the purchase of weapons which will fuel a popular uprising against vicious warlord, General Yang (Akim Tamiroff). However he hadn't planned on falling in love with the daughter (Madeleine Carroll), of one of Yang's agents. BEAU GESTE: The theft of an enormous gem, the Blue Water, sends the three notoriously adventuresome Geste brothers into the French Foreign Legion.
