First Edition/First print with the "uncorrected" broken type on the title page. In original green covers, white writing vibrant to covers with spine faded out (see pics please), with corners bumped but still retaining some sharpness w/very minor fray, very slightly cocked to the right, spine tight with all pages fanning easily, bumping to spine head and toe, with the hinges in good shape, previous owner's signature to the ffep (see pics) some very minor soiling to covers, w/some age toning to page edges. Sinclair's powerful exposure of the Chicago meat-packing industry, still a staple on the menus of many high school reading lists. His account of the social and human abuses of the yards, where packers used "everything about the hog except the squeal," led to major reforms in the industry and, along with UNCLE TOM'S CABIN, is one of the few American novels to have a lasting impact on the way we live our lives. Indeed, when this book was published Jack London said, "What Uncle Tom's Cabin did for black slaves, The Jungle has a large chance to do for the white slaves of today." Later in life, Sinclair said of his masterpiece: "I aimed at the public's heart and by accident I hit it in the stomach." A nice copy affordable price--an original gift for a friend or relative! All sales are "as is" and FINAL unless not as described, so please read the entire description, view all the pictures, and ask all the questions PRIOR to bidding!
