Description: From an online page on Arthur Conan Doyle and The Strand: "The Strand Magazine is a British monthly magazine published from January 1891 to March 1950 (711 issues) in its original version (a new version of the magazine has been edited from 1998). George Newnes Ltd. was the publisher of the magazine and it was edited by Herbert Greenhough Smith from 1891 to 1930, then by Douglas Edward Macdonald Hastings. Arthur Conan Doyle was a huge contributor with novels, short stories, poems and articles. The Strand Magazine was also published in the United States from February 1891 through February 1916 but with sometimes different content. Between 1891 and 1930, The Strand Magazine published no less than... 121 short stories70 articles9 novels2 interviews1 poem... written by Arthur Conan Doyle." This is the American version of Volume 22 and 23 featuring THE COMPLETE SERIALIZED NOVEL, HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, in 9 installments, 5 in Volume 22 and 4 in Volume 23. All were present - the listing photos show 3 opening pages for each volume (6 of the listing photos): the first and last in each volume, and one between those. Each installment has between 4 and 8 illustrations by Sidney Paget. These two volumes are in VERY GOOD CONDITION. The 3/4 LEATHER BOARDS were professionally refurbished, leaving the leather clean and gilt spine titling clear. There is light to moderate wear along the board corners and edges, and there was some damage and loss to leather on the top and bottom of the spines of both volumes. There was some staining both bottom and top to match the color of the remaining textured leather in both volumes, and for Volume 23, a few flecks were lost exactly where the title was on the spine. There were marble endpapers matching the marble pattern of the boards. Both volumes were bound with a colorful frontispiece cover, but they did not match the book - the cover in Volume 22 was instead meant for Volume 23, while the cover in Volume 23 was specific to Volume 21. The pages are glossy, solidly bound, and clean. In a flip through, there was some spots where the spine was visible, a crease or a small tear, but mostly both had a well preserved set of The Strand issues. VERY NICE COPIES CONTAINING ALL 9 INSTALLMENTS OF ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE'S CLASSIC, THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, which some believe the best Sherlock Holmes novel by Arthur Conan Doyle. SLL
