Description: First published in 1948 by Country Life Limited, 2-10 Tavistock Street, London W.C2, made and printed in Great Britain by Sun Printers Ltd, London & Watford. This second impression printed in 1949. Dedicated to his wife. This is an autobiography by Henry Cotton, with a foreward by Bernard Darwin. Frontispiece is a photograph of The Author hitting past the chin. The Seller (my husband) was attending the National Golf Show at The Barbican, London back in February 1986. He was able to ask Mr. Cotton for his autograph, and he duly signed the book, on the page preceding the frontispiece, so you can actually see the back of the signature has slightly come through the picture when it’s held up. He signed it Henry Cotton 1986 in black marker pen. There is a bit of a story with the time of the signing! Just after Mr Cotton signed this book, He was escorted off into another room. Henry was then surprised by Eamonn Andrews while being presented with a gold medal for services to golf. He was also presented with “The Big Red Book” and off they went to film This Is Your Life!! I have included a still photo from this time, so you can check the providence of the story! Book: Green Cloth Hardback, with some sunbleaching. Front Cover - good strong green colour remains with clear & sharp lettering and classic Henry Cotton golf pose logo, all in cream colour. Some sunbleaching to the outer edges of front cover. Back Cover: strong green colour to most of plain back cover, just some strong sunbleaching to very top of back cover. Spine: totally sunbleached as it has been stored on bookshelf, so colour is now light brown. Lettering is still clear in cream colour. Just a bit of wear to the very bottom of the spine and the very top spine just has some bumping. Pages and content are all very clear and unmarked. No foxing or stains. The front inner cover just has some damage to the spine area where the paper has come away so the cloth webbing is visible but the spine is totally intact and sound. Lovely book for the collector and the original signature adds value. It is not an “added on” later signature on a paper or card, but he actually signed his own book and was able to have a conversation with seller at the same time. Very special. Henry Cotton, who was born in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, grew up in Dulwich, London, and excelled at cricket while attending Alleyn's School. He began playing golf at the Aquarius Golf Club in Honor Oak in 1920 before beginning his career as a professional golfer after leaving school in 1923. Henry achieved fame in the 1930s and 1940s with three victories in the British Open Championship in 1934, 1937 and 1948, becoming the leading British player of his generation. No Returns Accepted.
