The condition of the maps are consistent with their age and see photos for condition and any wear as all sales are final. Map Details: Gorgeous and extremely rare map by Mitchell from the year shown. Great geographical details are shown on the map from the time period. Original hand coloring. Each region was painstakingly individually hand colored at the factory back then making each and every map a little different and a unique piece of art. Take a moment to think about that again. Whether it be a large land mass or an individual little county square in the case of the US state maps, somebody's job back then was to hand color those in. Some maps, for example the state of Illinois have hundreds of little square counties that were hand colored in. That's simply amazing that it was done like that back then. The copyright date is printed in the lower margin on the sheet so you can see what year it was printed. General Description: 1. Strikingly interesting and highly detailed map. The map depicts in great detail all of the geographical information known at the time the map was published. Note that many geographical details have changed since the map was published and were not accurate compared to today's modern maps because things were fully discovered and accurately mapped yet. Map symbols and details include individual towns, rivers, lakes, bays, harbors, islands, mountains, forests, roads and other important places as shown on the map in this listing. 2. The map is in excellent condition considering the age and rarity of the map. The overall size of the map sheet is approximately 23 inches by 15.25 inches. Any printed text on the back of the map is as issued.3. The map is a 100% original and genuine antique map. (Please note that Colton maps from the 1870s and 1880s are actually rarer than the Colton maps from the 1850s and 1860s due to the production numbers for these were greatly reduced due to the competition from other cartographers such as Johnson's Family Atlas and others.
