Vintage 14k Oval Shell LADY Women CAMEO 2" x 1.6" 14.9g Pendant Brooch VICTORIAN

ONE VINTAGE PRE-OWNED CAMEO 14K YELLOW GOLD SHELL LADY/WOMAN 2" X 1.6" Outside measurements of CAMEO - approximately. This CAMEO belonged to my Mother. We inherited it. I don't remember where my Mother said she acquired it.....but I think it was her Mother's grandmothers. But that's only a educated guess. We are downsizing and must sell many of our finest collectibles. The framed setting is a HEART SHAPED FILIGREE. I believe that this CAMEO is particularly "special". As you can clearly see in my photos, there is a small CRESCENT MOON located in the top portion of her hair. I was told that CRESCENT moons have been around for centuries. They were found in ancient civilizations like the Egyptians and Romans. I have read that when one or more of these CRESCENT MOONS appear in/on an object it most commonly symbolizes growth, regeneration, and in some cultures, fertility. CRESCENT MOON symbols became particularly popular during the Victorian era, often representing femininity, mysticism, and the cycle of life and death. I'm not guaranteeing that this CAMEO is from the VICTORIAN era. But the significance of this CRESCENT MOON in this CAMEO - is quite noteworthy in my opinion. I believe that the lady in this CAMEO that has a crescent moon in/on her hair/head is either Artemis-Diana (huntress) or Selena-Luna (the moon). These two goddesses were often conflated in the Greco-Roman tradition. The condition of this VINTAGE CAMEO is in very good, vintage, preowned condition with the EXCEPTION that the end, HINGE mechanism of the original BROOCH pin is missing/broken off - and the MISSING GOLD FILIGREE that this HINGE was attached too. See photos. The "CLASP"end where the PIN fits into a small "C" shaped piece of metal is still intact (see photos). This clasp is not a "roll over" fitting but a simple tiny hook type safety piece which is part of the clasp. See Photos. So this CAMEO will obviously have to be repaired with a replacement frame FILIGREE and HINGE in order for it to be used as a "BROOCH". It has a excellent, attached, working, folding, gold loop that you can insert a chain into of your choice and use as a "PENDENT". The folding loop does NOT swivel. See Photos. NO cracks or damage. It is oval shaped but NOT PERFECTLY OVAL SHAPED as a result of the carving....See photos. My photos say more than I can describe. It is HALLMARKED 14k. It is Yellow gold.
