Pattern Description: Silver plate, Hollowware, Plain, Pumpkin Finials. Made in the U.S.A. After a 135 year active status, this pattern is now discontinued; it was active from ca. 1850 until 1985. Company History: Reed & Barton began operations in 1824 in Taunton, Massachusetts, U.S.A. The firm was initially known as Babbitt and Crossman before apprentices Henry G. Reed and Charles E. Barton took over in 1840. Reed & Barton was a silver manufacturer that produced Sterling and Silver plate silverware, flatware, and other silver goods and giftware. During the American Civil War, Reed & Barton produced a considerable quantity of weapons for Union Army soldiers and officers. Reed & Barton filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2015, citing ongoing pension liabilities and decreasing revenue. In a bankruptcy auction conducted in April 2015, the operating assets of the company were acquired by The Lenox Company, a competing maker of flatware and tableware. Reed & Barton is now located in Bristol, Pennsylvania and is a part of the Lenox Corporation family of brands. Today, Reed & Barton is still one of the most recognizable names in American silver and giftware. The company's manufacturing complex in Taunton is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Date Marks: Reed & Barton instituted date marks/symbols on their hollowware products beginning in 1928 and continued this until 1957. The pieces in this listing all have a cannon symbol which represents the date of manufacture in 1940. See photos. Condition: There are no missing pieces or parts and no broken feet, finials or other breaks, cracks or chips. Each piece has it's own protective felt bag which will be included with that piece.
