Description: Black wool shawl with yellow hand embroidered snakes across the front and back and a yellow hand embroidered Inca symbol on the left shoulder. This shawl appears to be handmade in a thick warm wool.Sizing is free; if measurements are desired please message me.Condition: Excellent vintage condition, no flaws seen.**This is from an estate sale of a women from Peru; she had mostly alpaca wool clothing. This was obviously very special to her due to the amazing condition. I have done a fair amount of research trying to discern what exactly it is. From what I have read, in the Inca culture the snake represents the world below/world of the dead where people go when they die. Snakes can also represent wisdom. It seems to be very rare for their ponchos to be black, so this seems to be some sort of occasional piece. Please correct me if any of the information is incorrect or if you happen to know what this poncho represents.
